Felt Trivet

The tablemat is handstitched from felt balls; use it for your teapot, a plantpot mat or displaying your treasures.

Carefully hand-felted from 100% raw sheep wool with soap and water.

Handmade in a small workshop in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. The women makers all live locally and work flexible hours around family commitments. It can take 45 minutes to fully felt a tray of felt balls. The artisans fold wool fleece into small pods, then each works to roll a wooden board over a tray containing 600 pods plus a smidgen of water and soap. A rock is added for weight partway through the process, helping the balls become denser through friction whilst minimising soap and water consumption. The balls are dried en mass in the sun and then the artisans sit on the padded workshop floor, using their toes to keep the balls in place while hand-stitching and threading.
